The only way to get a flat stomach is by losing belly fat. You may be thinking that the only way to reach that goal is with one of the latest belly rockets or gut busters. Or maybe you think it is by doing a million sit-ups or hundreds of crunches for the Abs.

Ask a hundred people and most of the answers to the question of how to get a flat stomach would be wrong. The real answer is losing the belly fat. Many answers would be to buy some gadget to do the job.

You already have everything you need to get a flat stomach and it’s not sit-ups, crunches or some new Abs gadget. The exercise you need most will not even cost you anything to do and it is not even hard to accomplish.

Losing Belly Fat Requires Exercise

Exercise is really the easy part because all you really need to be able to do is walk off belly fat. Just brisk walking for about 15 to 30 minutes a day will do the job. Its low impact makes you feel refreshed, adds to your energy to get through the day. Do it and you will get a flat stomach!

Jogging that 15 to 30 minutes will work a little faster for losing the belly fat but it is really not necessary. Jogging is a little higher impact and harder on the body if you are a little older and really not needed.

The advantage of jogging or walking is not only will you solve the flabby stomach but you will be firming up all the other parts of the body also. Trying to firm up only one area of the body will never work.

To get a flat stomach you must walk or jog off the fat from the whole body and become leaner to get real results.

To speed up the process cut back on the fats and sugars, soft drinks and add fresh fruits and vegetables plus more clean water to your intake. Forget all the crazy diets they are designed for quick weight loss and once you stop you gain all the weight back plus more.

It is not necessary to overdrive your cardiovascular system but you must get the heart rate up for 15 to 30 minutes at least 3 days a week to boost the metabolism. Four of five days a week will do the job much faster. Doing the walking during the 7 day week on days 1, 3, 5, and 7 is best. Every other day will make it easier to build a healthy habit.

The boost to the metabolism every other day will turn your body into a fat burning machine 24 hours a day. And in no time at all your will get a flat stomach without working yourself to death.

People have been lead to believe you must exercise yourself to death for losing belly fat and that is just not true.

Follow this simple plan will add your total body fitness and tone your whole body. Your energy level will shoot up the flabby parts of your body will firm up and you will look and feel better.

One May Shock You

The 2 fattening foods that I'm going to talk about in this article may actually shock you... most people falsely believe these 2 foods are "healthy".  In all of my years working as a Certified Nutrition Specialist, this usually surprises people when I mention they should consider eliminating these foods from their diet.

Everybody these days knows how bad trans fats and high fructose corn syrup are for you, so I figured I'd spare you yet another lecture on those... Instead, read on to see a couple foods that may shock you that they may be packing on the blubber.

The first type of food that is often falsely believed to be healthy is wheat products... this includes most breads, cereals, bagels, muffins, pasta, crackers, and so on.  And yes, I am including "whole wheat" in the category of this fattening food.

First of all, a large percentage of the population has some degree of intolerance to the gluten in wheat and some other grains. Full blown celiacs are the most sensitive to it, but what most people don't realize is that the majority of the population was never meant to eat large quantities of wheat.  The human digestive system has never adapted to large amounts of wheat in the diet.

The introduction of wheat into the human diet has only been in the last couple thousand years, and it has NEVER been in such large quantities in the human diet until the last 80-100 years.  This is a small time frame compared to the traditional diet that the human digestive system developed over several hundred thousand years eating a hunter-gatherer diet of meats, fruits, vegetables, nuts, and seeds.

From my experience with many of my clients, when they heed my advice and eliminate wheat from their diet for 2-3 weeks to see if they start to lose weight and feel better, this almost always makes a HUGE difference.  Many times, they not only start losing body fat much faster, but they also finally get rid of headaches and indigestion that has plagued them for years.  Sometimes even skin problems go away when eliminating wheat from the diet.

The 2nd example of the worst fattening foods that shocks many people because it is thought to be "healthy" is -- fruit juice.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not an anti-carb advocate per se... I actually think most fruits are VERY healthy for us. However, we were NOT meant to separate the juice from the rest of the fruit and only drink the high calorie sugary mixture and leave behind the fiber and other beneficial components of the fruit.

When you only drink the juice of fruits (apple juice and orange juice being 2 of the worst culprits in the western diet), you are not getting the appetite satisfying effect of the fiber in the fruit, and you're left craving more carbs.  Also, the fiber in whole fruit helps to slow the blood sugar response when eating whole fruit compared to fruit juice.

Bottom line... over consuming fruit juices makes you fat.  On the other hand, eating whole fruits including all of the fiber helps you maintain a healthy balanced diet and high nutrient density (as long as the rest of your diet is whole unprocessed foods as well).

Get Rid of Belly Fat

The most effective means of losing body fat is and always has been to stop eating more than you need. The science of not eating too much can be learned. But it will take some effort on your part.

Once you stop eating more calories than your body needs to function for one day, you can jump into some cardio exercise sessions and start the process of burning off the fat from your entire body. Cardio exercise is what forces the body to burn calories and thus burn off more fat. Once your body effectively turns the food you are currently giving it for energy, it will be forced to start pulling from those fat stores to get through the rest of the day and power through that intense walk on the track. But, you have to be eating less than what your body needs for all that activity.

So, what's the catch?

You can't make your body pull that stored fat from your belly rather than your hips or some other location. That said, many people do notice a reduction in the waist first once they commit to a regular program of exercise along with the proper food intake.

Do not add anymore fat to your belly. Understand that refined carbs like white breads and pasta or sugary processed foods are likely to go straight to your gut. If you switch to whole grains and eat lots of vegetables and fruits with lean meats, you are likely to see more success with your workout sessions. Smaller portions 5 or 6 times a day is the trick of doing it without hunger. It also speeds up the metabolism. The hunger diet just forces the body to store the fat. The 5 or 6 smaller meals beat the hunger. This is how to lose your belly fat the smart way.

If you seriously want to learn how to lose your belly fat, then stop searching for some nonexistent miracle pill and just get down to the real work of making that gut disappear by pumping up your heart rate and feeding your body only what it needs to maintain good health.
